The short version: everything you save in Olio stays on your Mac. I don't collect it, see it or sell it.
What Olio keeps, and where
Your notes, links, images, settings and backups live in Olio's library on your Mac. There is no Olio account and no Olio server.
When Olio goes online
- Link previews. When you save a link, Olio asks that website for its title, description and image, as a browser would. The site sees your IP address. Switch previews off in Settings › General and Olio makes no such requests.
- Update checks. Once a day Olio asks olioapp.pages.dev whether a newer version exists. The request carries your Olio and macOS versions, nothing from your library. You can turn automatic checks off in Settings › General.
- Downloading an update. New versions are downloaded from GitHub, which sees your IP address like any download.
That's all. Olio has no analytics and no advertising.
Crash reports
macOS hands Olio reports about crashes and slowdowns, and Olio keeps them on your Mac. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Feedback
Help › Send Feedback opens a feedback form hosted by Notion. Notion stores what you type there, under Notion's own privacy policy. Your email address is optional. I use what you send only to improve Olio and to reply, and I delete it when you ask.
This website
This site uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking. It's hosted by Cloudflare, which processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site. The download itself is served by GitHub.

Under the GDPR you may ask what I hold about you and have it deleted. For the app, the answer is nothing.
